Depression; Fake It Till You Make It

There are so many people today that suffer from depression. Many
try to seek relief through antidepressant drugs, but have found that
these medications don’t work to alleviate their symptoms, or make
them feel any better. Over time, they may have tried a number of
different prescribed drugs, and even some other drugs, but end up
being frustrated. There are so many things that are bad about these

Can passion flower be used as an alternative to antidepressants for
treating depression? Yes, the passion flower has been used for thousands

Stress Today And Depression Tomorrow

We all suffer some stress from time to time, and too much stress will bring on depression and if you keep that up, you will
suffer from major depression before you know it. Now, let me tell you that not all stress is bad. Stress can start change,
and aid you in focusing at the task at hand, and in some cases can even save your life. We all know a build up of stress
can result in major risks, and letting stress accumulate…well, the result can be catastrophic.

There are tips and steps in managing your stress. The first thing you need to do is determine and understand the causes of
your stress. Then you can put each of them in place and deal with them one by one.

The opposite of stress is relaxation. Stand up, stretch, and take a deep breath. Oxygen is very important to the body.
Taking a deep breath adds oxygen to the system, which can help you relax. Learning how to breathe properly will help you
take control in a stressful situation.

Take a short walk, get a glass of water, do something that can change your focus. You should try smiling and take a short

Low Light Equals Big Depression

Depression is a serious medical condition, that believe it or not, most people will just ignore. I’d like to believe that
the reason for ignoring this condition is to avoid those dangerous antidepressants. It will not just go away and you do not
have to take those antidepressants either.

Before the times of new modern medicine it did take a long time to heal wounds and illnesses.  It should make someone think
about how those problems were even healed at all.  The answer is easy.  The answer is light. Sunlight was and still is a

Fish Oil For Mental Health

Fish oil is not only good for the heart and for our overall health, this is also
good for our brain. Fish oil comes from fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, herring,
sardines and anchovies.  It contains Omega-3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid or
DHA and eicosapentaenoic acid or EPA.  These kinds of Omega-3 fatty acids cannot
be produced by the body so it is important to take in food that contain these
kinds of nutrients.

Fish oil is said to improve brain development and memory.  DHA plays a major role
in the structure and development of the brain.  It is also important in developing
vision.  Pregnant womens’ diet should constitute fish oil since DHA is important
for the baby to develop their brain.

According to the research by the University of Western Australia, expectant mothers
who include DHA in their diet are said to give birth to babies with better eye and
hand coordination and less risk of giving birth prematurely.  Their children are
also better speakers and could understand more at the age of two and a half.
Although, if you are pregnant and would like to take fish oil supplement, it is
better to check with your doctor first.  Fish oil is also said to result into bleeding
as a side-effect.

Research and studies showed that adding fish oil to your diet could also reduce
possibilities and risks of mental and psychological disorders like depressive orders,
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), bipolar disorder, Alzheimer’s
disease and dementia.

Actually, according to a study by Aberdeen University, they identified that fish oil
can actually increase IQ scores and can even slow the aging process. According to
a Swedish study published in the Archives of Neurology, patients with mild to moderate
Alzheimer’s were given 1.7 grams of DHA and .6 grams of EPA.  They showed less cognitive
decline in six months.

As mentioned, fish oil is recommended for children who have ADHD.  There are studies
showing that the lack polyunsaturated fatty acids can contribute to this disorder.
This can also be the reason behind dyslexia.  There were studies conducted among
children, they were given fish oil supplements for the period of three months.  These
children showed significant improvements in behavior, reading and spelling.  They were
also able to focus and concentrate more.

There were studies that showed that Omega-3 fatty acids had the same effects as Prozac,
a well known antidepressant.  Studies showed that countries with high fish
consumption have lower rates of depression.  Aside from that, pregnant women and those
who have just given birth who include fish in their diet regularly have lower risk of
experiencing postpartum depression.

Too much of fish oil supplement can also cause some serious problems like oxidative
stress.  Some doctors would recommend taking Vitamin C  along with the fish oil
supplement.  This would actually balance the nutrients that you are getting.

Fish oil has amazing effects on our health and body, and also plays a major role in
the prevention of Depression and symptoms alike. We just have to remember to keep
it balanced with a healthy diet and healthy lifestyle.

The Vitamin B Trilogy Continues

Wow, this whole Vitamin B thing really caught me by surprise. I knew that it was important to depression sufferers and
I wanted to make it my business to get all that information to my loyal readers so they would also know how important
Vitamin B can be for the treatment of Depression.

I always thought there were 6 in the B family and I brought those 6 to you. In my research, I found out that there were
really 8 B’s in this family, but the last 2 were never mentioned. OK, I figured that I will just have to dig a little
deeper, actually I think I went too deep, I found those 2 that were puzzling me and I also found a much bigger puzzle,
after I spotted those 2, I found 20 more.

I’m not exactly sure, but in total, I think I found about 30 of them. I also found that the reason nobody really knows
this is because most of them have nothing to do with human consumption and are essential in the diets of other
organisms, some others have no nutritional value and several others go under other names you might be familiar with, but
not necessarily recognized because there’s no “B” next to it.

Like for example carnitine used to be known as B-20 and L-carnitine was known as B-t. There are many, but the 2 that I
found in particular were B-7 (Biotin) and B-9 (Folic Acid). Biotin, also known as Vitamin H, is necessary for cell
growth, the production of fatty acids, and the metabolism of fats and amino acids and is also helpful in maintaining a
steady blood sugar level. Biotin deficiency is rare, as intestinal bacteria generally produce an excess of that required
by the body.

Folic Acid is needed to synthesize DNA, repair DNA, and methylate DNA. It is especially important during periods of rapid
cell division and growth. Children and adults require folic acid to produce healthy red blood cells and prevent anemia.
Some evidence links a shortage of folate with depression. Folic acid supplements have an effect on noradrenaline and
serotonin receptors in the brain and this relationship may be the reason why folic acid is an antidepressant.

I am very sure that we have covered everything you ever wanted to know about Vitamin B and then some. You now know that
there are many vitamins in the “B” family and most of them don’t matter to us very much. Although, the ones that do, play
a very important role in the prevention and detection of your depression and it’s symptoms.

More Vitamin B and Your Depression

In my last post, we talked a little bit about the family of Vitamin B. We got into B-1, B-2, B-3 and B-5. Today we’ll
talk about vitamin’s B-6 and B-12.

Vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine) aids your body in producing serotonin, norepineprhine and dopamine. These have everything
to do with depression and will help regulate your mood.

Women will enjoy this benefit as it will help eliminate premenstrual-syndrome symptoms. Be careful not to take too
much B-6, it can off-set the balance of other B vitamins.

Vitamin B-6 will also play a role in the prevention of Depression and will strengthen the nervous system. Meat eaters
and vegetarians can both enjoy plenty of B-6 in their diets. Great sources would include lean meat, poultry, beans,
bananas, fortified cereals, nuts  and also some fruits and vegetables.

Finally that leaves us with Vitamin B-12 (cobalamin). This vitamin also helps by maintaining a healthy nervous system
and can be found in foods like meat, fish, eggs, poultry and also milk and dairy products, but it is not found too much
in vegetables, so if you are a vegetarian, you will have to rely on B-12 supplements.

B-12 is important to red blood cell formation, lacking this will lead to reduced oxygen levels in your blood. This can
and will bring on mood swings, confusion, irritability, paranoia, hallucinations, dementia, numbness or tingling of the
extremities, heart palpitations, diarrhea, dizziness, weakness, appetite problems and shortness of breath.

Now think that all this started with a shortage of Vitamin B-12, and the really strange thing is that your liver can
store and save B-12 for anywhere from 3 to 5 years. Lets just say that if you have a B-12 deficiency, you can add
serious dietary habits to the long list of issues associated with the deficiencies of Vitamin B-12.

That is a fairly detailed list of 6 vitamins in the B family, through my research I discovered there are 8 in the “B”
family. The other 2 are hiding and I will find them and bring them to you soon, my next blogpost. Meanwhile, get plenty

Vitamin B and Your Depression

Scientists have discovered a link between Vitamin B deficiencies and Depression. So, let’s jump right in and see what we
can learn about this group of B’s.

They help maintain normal brain function, they are water soluble and you need to get some in your body every day.

Vitamin B-1 (thiamine),
if found to be deficient can bring on fear, confusion, moodiness and a general feeling of

Vitamin B-2 (riboflavin) is responsible for more deficiencies than any of the other B’s. This will be noticed by fatigue
and concentration difficulties. Dairy products are loaded with B-2 and if you have been diagnosed with a thyroid disease
you will probably have a B-2 problem too.

Vitamin B-3 (niacin) levels will be tough to maintain if you like to eat a lot of starches. Niacin forms serotonin,
dopamine and histamine and deficiencies can show up by irritability, anxiety and mental sluggishness. Niacin supports the
nervous system, memory and mental health. Foods that are good sources of B-3 are fish, liver, poultry, red meat, cereals,
nuts, seeds, leafy greens and asparagus.

Vitamin B-5 (pantothenic acid) is found in many of the foods that we eat, but is mostly lost in the cooking process. Low
B-5 levels can bring on insomnia, headaches, moodiness and depression. Alcohol and stress can deplete your body of B-5.
You can boost B-5 levels by eating beef, pork, fish, kidney, liver, brewers yeast, mushrooms, fresh vegetables, nuts, eggs,
whole wheat and rye. It is starting to look like the B-group is a pretty important part of your daily regimen and your
